Man ran away from 5 star hotel without paying Rs 23 lakh bill, caught by Delhi Police

Delhi News: A five star hotel in Delhi was duped of Rs 23 lakh by a person. This person kept enjoying the luxurious facilities for four months and then absconded without paying the bill. Now Delhi Police has arrested him. The accused stayed at The Leela Palace hotel for almost three months by showing a fake business card. 

Accused Mohammad Sharif has been arrested by Delhi Police from Karnataka. He stayed in the hotel claiming himself to be a member of the royal family of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The total cost of Sharif’s stay in the five star hotel came to about Rs 23 lakh 46 thousand. He stayed at this hotel from August 1 to November 20 last year. 

Accused appearing in court 

After this incident, the police had registered an FIR at the Sarojini Nagar police station on January 14 this year on the complaint of hotel general manager Anupam Das Gupta. A case was registered under section 419/420/380 of the IPC. Based on the complaint, a team was formed to nab the absconding accused. Sharif was arrested from Dakshina Kannada on January 19 and produced before the court. 

Allegation of theft of silver utensils 

According to the police, the accused checked into the hotel with a fake business card and claimed to be an official of the UAE government. He also showed the hotel a resident card of UAE. During investigation these documents were found to be fake. It has also been alleged by the hotel that he stole silverware and other items from the hotel room. 

Police arrested the accused from Karnataka. The Delhi Police has now started investigating the crime horoscope of the accused. It is also being ascertained that how many such forgeries have been carried out by it so far because of the way the accused has dodged the hotel. The accused is believed to be very cunning in such works.
