72-year-old suspect in US crowd shooting shoots himself after being surrounded: police

  1. A 72-year-old man suddenly opened fire at a Chinese New Year party in Monterey Park in Los Angeles, California yesterday. After which the police surrounded him. As the officers approached him, they heard gunshots.
  2. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said, “The suspect shot himself and was pronounced dead at the scene.”
  3. The sheriff confirmed that there were no other suspects in the mass shooting, and said the motive for the attack was not yet known. “Investigation is currently underway,”
  4. Authorities have said detectives were reviewing surveillance video and did not yet know whether the suspect was targeting any specific groups.
  5. Sheriff Luna previously said, “We don’t know if this is a hate crime specifically defined by law, but who walks into a dance hall and shoots 20 people?”,
